Belonging to a classical lineup of games, American Blackjack (developed in Betsoft studios) is a well-balanced, multihand option with an expected player return of 99.35%. As in other classic games of 21, the player’s goal is to collect 21 points in the hand or as close to it as possible. There are six decks used during play. This deteriorates slightly the player’s edge but there are other rules in American Blackjack that favor the player. A real money bet starts at $1 and goes all the way to $100 per hand. In case of split, new hands require the same original bet ($1 to $100 or in bitcoin if the online casino accepts crypto). A player may place chips on up to three hands simultaneously.

Design-wise, a player can see a dark green felt with white markings denoting bet areas. Animations for card dealing are also used. A player may adjust the card animations speed and thus increase or slow down the pace of play. All elements on the game screen are detailed to the maximum extent because the blackjack has been produced by Betsoft, it says that all.

This Blackjack is based on traditional “Las Vegas Strip” rules, which are well-known in South Africa, with a few minor exceptions:

  • Split is allowed only once
  • Having a hard hand totaling 10 or 11, a player may double down if he believes another card gives him a chance to bring down the dealer. When doubling down, the player hits, receives only one card and passes the turn to the dealer automatically. Double down after split is possible, too
  • There is no early or late Surrender option
  • Dealer always peeks on ace or any 10-valued card
  • Dealer must take another card when having 16 and soft 17.

A player gets the chance to protect himself against dealer’s blackjack at the beginning of a round by taking Insurance at the price of half the original wager. If there is blackjack in the dealer’s hand, the Insurance bet wins at 2:1 (but the main bet is lost anyways). If there is no blackjack, the game will keep on running as normal and the Insurance bet will be lost.

For other actions of the player (Hit, Stand), American Blackjack holds a strategy chart on the Rules page. Newcomers are advised to consult it to improve the winning chances.
